Short-time work in France: check the payslip

A French short-time-work payslip must identify compensated hours, the allowance rate and amounts paid. The employee’s allowance is different from the allocation received by the employer. Multiplying stated hours by the stated rate can reveal a numerical difference, but it does not validate that rate, eligible hours or a special scheme. Those points need separate examination.

Is the employer allocation the employee allowance?

No. Employer allocation and employee indemnity differ. Funding received by the business does not automatically explain the payslip line.

What should appear on the payslip?

The payslip must identify compensated hours, the indemnity rate and sums paid for short-time work. Reconcile these three elements before comparing amounts.

Copy the exact label and distinguish indemnity from an agreement-based or employer supplement. The final net bank payment does not replace this detail.

Which payment flows must be distinguished?

The employee indemnity and allocation claimed by the employer are separate flows. A company reimbursement amount does not directly establish the payslip payment.

Short-time work concerns reduced or closed activity within an express or implicit administrative-authorisation framework. This arithmetic ledger establishes neither authorisation nor covered hours.

  1. Employer to employee

Identify the indemnity and any payroll supplements.

  2. Scheme to employer

The allocation has its own rules and parameters.

  3. Special situation

Direct ASP payment or a specific scheme needs corresponding records.

Which hours and rate can be entered without certifying them?

The tool takes stated hours and gross rates from records without certifying eligibility. The ordinary framework uses a proportion of qualifying gross reference pay and limits requiring separate examination.

The sixty-percent reference is not an instruction to multiply any gross salary. Examine the qualifying basis and reference remuneration capped at 4.5 times Smic, among other conditions.

How can the calculated and paid amounts be reconciled?

Hours multiplied by the stated rate produce a gross reference; the tool then subtracts the stated gross payment. The difference remains signed, including a negative result.

No floor or net conversion is applied. Use the result to frame a question about the line while retaining eligibility and rate as unverified assumptions.

Reconcile the short-time-work line

Copy stated parameters without treating them as verified.

Hours × stated gross rate, minus stated gross payment. No rate, floor or net-pay validation.

How can €216 calculated and €208 on the slip be explained?

Eighteen hours at a stated €12 rate produce €216; compared with €208, the difference is €8. That does not prove that the employer owes precisely that amount.

A different hours perimeter, basis, supplement or presentation may need explanation. Preserve all three parameters before comparing other months.

Worked example · fictional facts

Fictional slip: eighteen hours at a stated €12 rate produce €216 gross, while the line shows €208. The €8 difference needs explanation; neither eligible hours nor the legally correct rate has been established.

Why do floors and special schemes need separate treatment?

Floors, ceilings and special cases depend on period and regime. Apprentices, professionalisation contracts, training and long-duration schemes require separate reading.

Do not apply a dated guide’s figures without checking their scope and date. This worksheet deliberately limits itself to multiplication of already-stated parameters.

Which records explain the difference?

A useful explanation request concerns parameters actually used. Avoid asking only why overall net pay changed.

  • Payslip and precise short-time-work line.
  • Period and compensated non-worked hours.
  • Pay basis and applied rate.
  • Any supplement terms and stated special regime.

How should payslip parameters be recorded without confusing gross and net?

Keep units explicit: hours, gross euros per hour and the line’s gross amount. Compare like with like.

Deductions and final net pay involve other parameters. Professional examination of the scheme and records should precede classifying an arithmetic gap as a wage debt.

What else should you check?

Is the employer allocation the employee allowance?

No. Employer allocation and employee indemnity differ. Funding received by the business does not automatically explain the payslip line.

Can sixty percent be applied to any gross pay without further checks?

No. The qualifying basis, reference ceiling and special regimes matter. The ordinary proportion does not validate multiplication of any monthly gross pay.

Are all overtime hours compensable?

No. Compensable hours depend on relevant statutory or collective/contractual duration and prescribed exceptions. Overtime totals are not automatically included.

Does an arithmetic difference prove wages are owed?

No. Verify eligible hours, rate, basis and the compared line. The calculated difference is a reconciliation question, not a debt determination.

Does this worksheet calculate APLD or net pay after deductions?

No. The worksheet does not calculate APLD, deductions or net pay. It multiplies stated hours and gross rate and compares a stated amount.
