Home employment tax credit in France: out-of-pocket cost
Informational guide. An independent qualified legal review has not been completed.
The home employment tax credit covers half of qualifying expenses actually borne, within applicable limits. Deduct subsidies funding those expenses before calculation. Check the activity, home, provider and any caps or sub-caps. Immediate advance changes payment timing; it does not make an otherwise non-qualifying expense eligible. A simple example cannot resolve every household or service exception.

What you leave withA reconciliation of expenses, subsidies, theoretical credit and remaining cost within ordinary-case limits.
Start with the practical sectionWhich expenses does your household actually bear?
The credit uses qualifying expenses actually borne after corresponding aid is deducted. Find services, payments and fiscal certificates. An invoiced amount reimbursed by aid is not entirely a personal expense to count again in the base.

Which subsidies must be deducted first?
Reconcile aid, employer contributions and funded services. Activities can also have sublimits within the overall ceiling, including €500 for small DIY, €3,000 for computer assistance and €5,000 for gardening under their conditions. Those limits are not all added to the global ceiling.
| Element | Preparation | Check |
|---|---|---|
| Eligible expense | Reconcile payment and certificate | Activity and household |
| Aid received | Deduct the corresponding share | Avoid double counting |
| Limited activity | Check the specific sublimit | Within the global ceiling |

How do you apply the ordinary-case rate and cap?
The tool covers only the ordinary €12,000 base ceiling when eligibility and activity sublimits have already been checked. It calculates retained net base and one half. Household increases, first-year employment, disability and other special cases need a separate branch; they are not silently forced into this ceiling.

What do €6,000 expenses and €1,000 subsidies show?
With €6,000 qualifying expenses and €1,000 aid, net expense is €5,000. On the ordinary assumptions, theoretical credit is €2,500 and remaining net cost €2,500. This does not verify activity, documents or every household criterion.
Fictional ordinary qualifying case: €6, 000 expenses less €1, 000 aid leave €5, 000 net expense, €2, 500 theoretical credit and €2, 500 remaining cost. Activity and household conditions are assumed for the example.

Does immediate advance change entitlement?
Immediate advance and tax advances concern timing of payment or support. They do not make an ineligible service eligible or create a right above the final credit. Differences from actual expenses can lead to adjustment.

Which certificates should you retain for reporting?
Keep tax certificates, payments, aid and activity breakdowns. In the official return, distinguish reporting fields and the aided share. Julie can help reconcile records and assumptions; this tool sends no expenses to the administration.
- Tax certificate and relevant service or employment.
- Payments and corresponding aid.
- Activity breakdown and verified limits.

What else should you check?
Can employer aid be added without reducing eligible expense?
Corresponding aid reduces the expense actually borne. Do not calculate credit on gross expense while forgetting that contribution.
Does the ordinary cap cover all service sub-caps?
No. Some activities have sublimits within the overall ceiling. Verify breakdown and limits before addition.
Can a household owing no income tax benefit from a credit?
A tax credit can be refundable within the applicable framework even where tax is low or zero. Expense and household conditions still apply.
Do a first year or disability require separate rules?
Yes. These cases and possible increases need an appropriate ceiling. The ordinary tool excludes them rather than certifying entitlement.
Can an excessive advance be adjusted later?
Yes. Advances must be reconciled with the final credit based on actual expenses; overpayment can be adjusted.
