The French repair bonus in 2026: how much, for which appliances, and how to get it

The French repair bonus comes straight off the bill of a QualiRépar-labelled repairer once no warranty covers the appliance. It is funded by producer schemes, which set the amount for each appliance, for example 50 euros for a washing machine on ecosystem’s 2026 list. You do not apply: the repairer deducts it. It does not cover cosmetic damage, consumables, or a fault still covered by a warranty.

How do you find a QualiRépar repairer?

Julie Illustration

Use the directory of approved repairers on ecosystem’s website, updated daily, entering the appliance and your town. An approved repairer must display the bonus conditions outside its premises and on its website; those who come to your home charge for travel but still apply the bonus.

Answer

How much for a washing machine, a TV or a smartphone?

Under ecosystem’s official scale in force since 1 January 2026: €50 for a washing machine, dishwasher or tumble dryer, €60 for a television, €25 for a mobile phone, a tablet, a fridge or a freezer, and €40 for a vacuum cleaner.

These are flat amounts, the same whatever the repair. They are set by the producer responsibility organisation, not by law, and can therefore change.

Answer

How do you get the bonus: do you need to apply?

No. The bonus comes straight off the bill, visibly, on the amount including VAT, provided you use a QualiRépar-approved repairer. A do-it-yourself repair, even with a part you bought, does not qualify.

The repairer is then paid by the repair fund within fifteen days of the paid invoice, and owes you a commercial warranty of at least three months on the repair.

Answer

Does the bonus apply while the appliance is under warranty?

No. The repair fund pays for no repair carried out under the legal guarantee or a commercial warranty, and ecosystem also excludes extended warranties and appliances covered by insurance.

If the fault appears within two years of delivery, use the legal conformity guarantee with the seller: the repair is then at no cost to you, and the guarantee is extended by six months.

Answer

Which faults are excluded from the bonus?

Replacing a cosmetic part, faults caused by electrical or plumbing installation, software or misuse, consumables, accessories and removable batteries, software maintenance, and damage covered by the hidden-defects guarantee.

Breakages that stop the appliance working, such as a screen or a washing-machine door handle, are covered, and so is replacing a non-removable battery.

The law

What does article L541-10-4 of the Environment Code say?

Dans le cadre de leur objectif de prévention des déchets mentionné à l’article L. 541-10, les éco-organismes et les systèmes individuels des filières concernées participent au financement des coûts de réparation effectuée par un réparateur labellisé des produits détenus par des consommateurs.

Code de l’environnement, article L541-10-4In force since 12 February 2020Read on Légifrance

In plain English: As part of their waste-prevention objective, producer responsibility organisations and individual schemes in the sectors concerned help fund the cost of repairs carried out by an approved repairer on products held by consumers.

The fund must hold at least 10% of the estimated repair costs of products held by consumers, and never pays for a repair carried out under the legal guarantee or a commercial warranty. Each scheme sets its own amounts, which may be flat rates by product and type of repair.

What do people ask before a repair?

How do you find a QualiRépar repairer?

ecosystem: QualiRépar and repair bonus FAQCode de l’environnement, article R541-150

Does a repair under the legal guarantee extend it?

Yes, by six months: any item repaired under the legal conformity guarantee has that guarantee extended accordingly. If you chose repair and the seller replaces the item instead, a new guarantee runs for the replacement. The 2024 EU directive raises the extension to one year, but France has not transposed it yet.

Must spare parts remain available in France?

The seller must tell you, before the sale and then in writing, whether spare parts are available and until when; for electrical or electronic goods, without that information they are deemed unavailable. For household appliances, small IT equipment, screens and smartphones, manufacturers must supply them for at least five years after the last unit of the model is placed on the market. A breach can bring a fine of up to €75,000 for a company.

Is the bonus paid if the bill is lower than the bonus?

No. The bonus applies up to the amount of the bill: if the bill including VAT is lower than the bonus, the repair is not covered. For a computer, printer or scanner the bill must also reach €150 including VAT, and €100 for a monitor.
